Mary Simat; out of her passion for her Maasai community; left her teaching career to champion for the Rights of women and girls in her community. She has been the chairperson for the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Coordinating Committee (IPACC) and travelled many times to attend UN conferences in Geneva and New York. She is the executive director of MAWEED; Maasai Women for Education and Development. Alongside other educated Maasai women; she is teaching the community about the importance of sending young girls to school; and teaching women to become economically empowered. She has been elected in 2017 as a member of the County Assembly of the Narok County.
